The CFM56 is an aircraft engine that is produced by CFM International, a joint company between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines. Accumulating over 1 billion flight hours, delivered over 33000 engines and serving over 600 operators, the CFM56 has established itself as the benchmark for single-aisle commercial jet engines. Its success is attributed to its outstanding reliability and performance. The CFM56 has various models such as the CFM56-5B and the CFM56-7B in order to support the Airbus and the Boeing company respectively. The engines tend to each company's specific model of aircraft such that they are compatible and airworthy. Nonetheless, the reason for their popularity is due to the engine’s extensive market acceptance for its simple and sturdy design that ensures top reliability, durability, ease of repair and the lowest ownership cost in its class (CFM International, 2024). The engine also achieves a 94% utilisation rate and a dispatch reliability rate of 99.96%. This means that the CFM56 encounters one delay or cancellation for every 2500 flights (Levingston, 2019).

The CFM56 is an important piece of equipment in the aviation industry that powers both military and commercial aircrafts due to its performance and reliability.
